Eligibility Requirements
Jukendo・Tankendo: Dan, Shogo, Referee Certifications
DAN
Shodan
Must be over 13. (provisional: must have been holding the rank of 1-kyu for a minimum of 6 months.)
2 dan
Must have been holding the rank of Sho-dan for a minimum of 1 year.
3 dan
Must have been holding the rank of 2-dan for a minimum of 1 year; must be over 18.
4 dan
Must have been holding the rank of 3-dan for a minimum of 2 years
5 dan
Must have been holding the rank of 4-dan for a minimum of 2 years.
6 dan
Must have been holding the rank of 5-dan for a minimum of 3 years; must be over 25.
7 dan
Must have been holding the rank of 6-dan for a minimum of 5 years; must be over 33.
8 dan
Must have been holding the rank of 7-dan for a minimum of 7 years; must be over 48.
SHOGO
Renshi
Must have been holding the rank of 5-dan for a minimum of 3 years; must be over 25.
Kyoshi
Must be 6-dan, must have been holding the title of Renshi for a minimum of 5 years; must be over 30.
Hanshi
Must be 8-dan; must have been holding the title of Kyoshi for a minimum of 15 years; must be over 55.
REFEREE
C class Referee
Must be holding the rank of 5-dan in both Jukendo and Tankendo.
B class Referee
Must have been holding the C certification for a minimum of 1 year; Must be Renshi 5-dan in both Jukendo and Tankendo.
A class Referee
Must have been holding the B certification for a minimum of 1 year; Must be Kyoshi 7-dan in both Jukendo and Tankendo.
REMARKS
(these apply to Japan only and probably will be implemented differently for overseas)
○ Shogo and 8-dan examinations dates must strictly respect the time-span, date to date.
○ 6 & 7-dan examinations must respect the time-span, but follow the Regional Sessions’ calendar. If the regional gradings take place earlier than usual, applicants can still sit the examination. Their certificates will however be dated according to the date they passed their previous rank. This rule only applies throughout a unique administrative year.
