Commentary by Bert Hsu
After my experience last year, I was very focused on the first strike. When the distance (maai) felt right, I just went for it without thinking. Fortunately, I scored.
Following the basic strategy, I adopted a conservative status to maintain my advantage and looked for another opportunity. There were several hits which didn’t score after the first one because the timing might be fine but the Zan Shin was not clear.
It is important to complete all the elements during different stages of a strike and make the process as clear as possible so the judges can see easily. Only then can you score.
